For all the positive self-talk, affirmations, manifesting language you know about, there is an equal (or perhaps greater) amount of negative self-talk.

That usually stems from self-doubt.

Self-doubt affects everyone at some point in their lives.

It influences our inner voice which can be detrimental if it prevents us from experiencing growth that comes from overcoming new challenges and embracing new opportunities.

Here are some of the best ways to deal with Self-Doubt when it comes your way:

Recognize and Question it

Name what is happening: For example, I see that I am doubting my ability to take on this new job scope for this promotion

Question it: I wonder why I’m doubting myself

Go down memory lane and challenge your negative self-talk with evidence

For example, when you think “this is not what I’m good at”, list 3 times you’ve overcome similar challenges

Be Kind to yourself

We’re usually kinder to strangers and friends than to ourselves and our own family members

Speak to yourself as you would to a good friend who is struggling

Reframe the “All or Nothing” concept

Acknowledge that no one knows everything and nothing can ever be perfect.

Taking on something new does not mean that you have to ace it or be perfect in it.

Think of it as a learning opportunity and just do your best.

Question if you are letting the past shape your decisions today

It is easy for past criticism and failure to shape the way you think. Are you using it as a crutch to avoid moving forward?

Question if Self-Doubt comes from social comparison

Everyone is on their own journey. You may have been classmates or peers in the past but just remember that everyone moves at their own pace.

Question if the Self-Doubt comes from an overly lofty and ambitious goal

Break down the lofty goal into bite sized pieces to tackle

Start with small steps and slowly gain the confidence to tackle the goal

Look at your Success Journal (it’s a good idea to keep one)

Look at your past accomplishments and the praise you’ve received from overcoming obstacles or achieving something

Gain confidence from that. It’s all done by you!

Accept that some level of Self-Doubt is healthy

It shows that you have humility and self-awareness

The key is to not let that doubt stop you from moving forward

Know that some level of Self-Doubt can make you more successful

It makes one more diligent and thorough

It also makes you more relatable to people

Love to hear what you think
