To what degree should one think about matters?

Does it depend on the stakes associated with the decision?

Does it depend on the amount of time you have to stew on it?

Does it depend on your personality and control tendencies?

Does it depend on your mood in the moment?

Does it depend on a past similar experience you’ve been haunted by?

Does it depend on the people associated with the decision?

I find people to be quite consistent.

If I know of someone who is slow in making decisions, they will be slow in all matters ranging from the deciding what to have for lunch from a one-page menu and deciding on taking a 3 day trip.

What I’ve noticed is the people who have developed more perspective and a sense of urgency over time can differentiate their decision-making levity by its stakes.

The bottom-line is driven by what people prioritise.

If they value time more than ruminating over 5 options for lunch, they might make a quick decision. If they value making the best choice, they might take a while more asking for opinions and recommendations.

Taking more time to give it more thought is fair.

The trouble happens when the extra rumination turns into a cycle of indecision and inaction.

Love to hear what you think
