Do you ever feel like you’re just going through the motions, existing but not truly living?

It’s a common sentiment among those who worry about ending up in a “soulless job” or find themselves in one, feeling their “youth slipping away”.

Perhaps you’re good at what you do, and it pays the bills, but deep down, you feel like you’re “playing a character that isn’t really me”.

If this resonates, then it’s time to talk about your soul – not in a mystical, “woo-woo” sense, but in the most grounded, practical way possible.

Your soul needs nourishment, and filling your cup can replenish your zest for living, even if your current reality feels far from ideal.

Do you find your work “soulless”?

This sensation arises from a fundamental disconnect between personal values and daily work.

There is a difference between not enjoying the routine mundaneness of work and the concept of work vs. feeling like you’re disconnected from what you’re paid to do.

If you tie your purpose and identity to work, then you’re giving yourself a tall order to fulfill.

Some people are able to maintain a job they don’t particularly enjoy and pursue their chosen joyful activities outside of work.

On the other hand, it can be easy to merge your identity, purpose and self-worth with work because so many hours in a day, month and year are devoted to it.

To fill your soul cup, I would recommend figuring out what work means to you?

Do you need your job function to make you feel purposeful? Are you able to get that from some other sources – like side hustles, hobbies, community work, reading, travel etc.?

Would that arrangement be good enough to satisfy you? Only you have the answer to that.

It’s a balancing act between that pragmatic desire for financial and job security and finding a job that is 100% aligned with your values.

Your EAT, PRAY, LOVE journey is possible but not necessary

Instead, it’s about finding tangible, actionable ways to infuse meaning and energy into your life, both within and outside your current work.

If your job provides financial security but demands little energy, consider it a blessing.

You might have heard from some lucky friends who have leisurely work days and multiple work from home days which are a luxury on not so busy work days.

That extra “free” time can be spent on activities that fill your cup or even developing a side gig.

This isn’t about neglecting your responsibilities, but about strategically reallocating your mental and emotional energy.

Unless things are really challenging and toxic in your workplace, consider reframing your work as a “means to an end” for your larger goals.

Reconsider your agency in your workplace. Are you able to make some changes that could make you more excited about doing the work?

Experiment and Pay Attention to even the smallest things

Soul filling and depleting things can be subtle so it would be wise to pay attention to how actions, activities, people, places make you feel.

Once you develop a good sense and can articulate how certain things boost your spirits or send it to the pits, you’ll have a clearer picture of how you can enhance your everyday living.

People often think soulful things have to be earth-shattering, grand and  drastic.

That can’t be further from the truth.

Soulful things are simply things that resonate with your heart and spirit.

They inspire positive feelings in you and make living more meaningful.

To round up, we believe that feeding your soul can boost your energy, enthusiasm and life source for a more vibrant life!
