How do I make my own decisions when everyone around me has an opinion?

If the decision you have to make appreciates third party input, evaluate opinions based on relevancy and the basis from which the person is giving it. People often project their own limitations in the advice and guidance they dish out. Most importantly, remind yourself that only you best understand your core personal values that guide your choices. The only person that has to be happy with the decision is yourself.

Key Framework / Action Steps:

  1. Name Your Core Values: Define 3 core principles (for example: growth, creativity, stability) that guide your choices
  2. Practice Low-Stakes Asserting: State your true opinion on small matters (music, hobbies, routines) before tackling major career choices
  3. Expect Resistance: Understand that when you assert yourself more than usual, others may react out of their own insecurity and their unease with change
